JFK killer Lee Harvey Oswald's coffin sold for $90,000

 

Lee Harvey Oswald's first coffin was damaged by waterThe coffin of Lee Harvey Oswald, the man who assassinated US President John F Kennedy, has been sold at auction for almost $90,000 (£58,000).

The Los Angeles auctioneers said two buyers battled it out for the coffin, after bids started at $1,000.
Oswald, who was murdered shortly after being arrested for the 1963 shooting, was reburied in a new coffin in 1981 after his widow had him exhumed.
The Texas funeral director kept the old coffin and chose to sell it at auction.
"Anything connected to the JFK assassination sells for really high,"
said auctioneer Nate D Sanders.
The buyer has not yet spoken publicly about the purchase.
Oswald was arrested about an hour after President Kennedy was shot dead in Dallas on 22 November, 1963.
Oswald himself was shot two days later and was never brought to trial.
There have been numerous conspiracy theories ever since about who really shot JFK and why Lee Harvey Oswald was killed.
The exhumation of his body in 1981 was designed to lay to rest one of these theories - namely, that the man who was buried was a Soviet agent who had taken Oswald's identity to carry out the killing.
The auction in Los Angeles also included instruments that were used to embalm Oswald, his death certificate, an Easter card he sent to his brother, and a section of the car seat on which President Kennedy was sitting when he was shot.

Veteran US broadcaster Larry King has presented the final edition of his long-running CNN talk show after 25 years with the cable news channel.

The 77-year-old fought back tears as he told his audience: "Thank you, and instead of Goodbye, how about So Long?"
President Barack Obama paid tribute to the star in a taped message, in which he said his show had "opened our eyes to the world beyond our living rooms"....

Larry King Live has ended after more than 6,000 shows and 50,000 interviews.
Former tabloid editor and talent show judge Piers Morgan will take over his coveted time slot in January.
Thursday's edition saw former president Bill Clinton make his 29th appearance on the show via satellite from Arkansas, while crooner Tony Bennett sang The Best is Yet to Come.
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appeared to announce he had made 16 December "Larry King Day" in his state as US TV stars Ryan Seacrest and Bill Maher joined King in his New York studio.
"This is not Larry's funeral. He's hopefully going to be in our living rooms for a lot of years to come," said comedian Maher.
"This is the end of a show, not the end of a man."
"You're not going to see me go away, but you're not going to see me on this set any more," King said.
The broadcaster has promised to "still be a part of the CNN family", saying he planned to host special one-off programmes.

Hrithik Roshan, Suzanne to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary

Big B raises funds to save tigers

Bollywood’s acting legend; Amitabh bachchan has proved his mettle once again. The celebrity status star has helped a lot to raise funds for the tiger conservation in India. In association with NDTV, Amitabh Bachchan helped to raise almost 4.86 crores for the wildlife conservation trust, which will now deploy 35 rapid response teams and will cover all the 38 tiger reserves, which will help 1,411 big cats to survive in their natural habitats.
Stars like Abhishek Bachchan, Baichund Bhutia, Nitin Gadkari, Manish Malhotra, Dya Mirza, Soli Sorabjee, Proya Dutt were also included in the donaion spree. It is heard that bachchan has also requested other stars like SRK, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan on a formal note, to support the cause and to fund the wildlife conservation trust, in order to save the wildlife from getting extinct in India.
Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has responded on his social networking account that he will be always in support of any such deed, taken by the senior bachchan.
